Tourist's bag snatched

Two tourists were the victims of a handbag snatch as they travelled along the South Shore on a rental scooter.

The husband and wife, both 50 and from Massachusetts, were driving along South Road near the Modern Mart in Paget when the incident happened, at 9 p.m. on Saturday.

A Bermuda Police Service spokesman said: "They were riding their rental cycle east on South Road when an unknown man on a motorcycle stole the female visitor's handbag from their cycle's basket, where it had been secured with a bungee cord.

"The suspect, described as a black male wearing a white T-shirt and a white helmet, then made good his escape down St. Paul's Lane and on to Middle Road, despite the visitors giving chase."

The thief got away with a quantity of cash, a silver Canon camera and other personal items. The handbag is described as beige with white straps.

Police inquiries are continuing.
