<Bt-5z37>Speight confident Logie will stay
Neil Speight said yesterday he had “every confidence” coach Gus Logie would honour his contract that runs until 2009, despite speculation that the Trinidadian might be considering his future.
Asked yesterday whether he had had a chance to discuss the coach’s long-term plans, Bermuda Cricket Board’s chief executive said they had already met to map out a 24-month post-World Cup plan for the national team and that Logie was fully committed to it.
The rumour-mill has been in full swing recently, particularly since Bermuda went down by 257 runs to India on Monday, with some suggesting Logie might well decide to move on in light of a very poor run of results over the past few months — including coming last at the World Cricket League tournament in January.
“I’ve got no reason to suspect he wants to leave,” Speight said. “We have already been busy mapping out our plans for re-qualifying for the World Cup and as far as I am aware, Gus is keen to be involved.
“The Board’s executive are extremely pleased with his work and we’re all convinced he’s the man to take us forward.”
