The West End Development Corporation (Wedco) has reopened bidding on plans to expand its marina.

Tenders were sought earlier this year with a deadline of August 5 but the quango has reopened the process with a new closing date of November 30.

Wedco General Manager Lloyd Telford said the bidding process was re-opened to attract a wider cross-section of the market. The initial competition attracted only three bids.

The current lease, held by Dockyard Marina, runs out in 2006.

The marina is adjacent to the site used by cruise ships and was built in 1996 but demand for boating space has increased, particularly from visiting vessels.
