A prominent local cricketer and others in the local cricketing fraternity were targeted in Saturday’s pursuit of a car by gunmen on a motorcycle.

The incident, which culminated with shots being fired at the vehicle, ended with the car crashing at the entrance to the Fairmont Southampton Hotel.

The Royal Gazette understands that a number of sportsmen were in the car at the time.

Although police have sought to allay concerns that a long distance, high speed chase had occurred, it emerged on Monday that the vehicle had been pursued from St David’s.
