People: Aaron Lutkin
Raymond and Janet Lutkin of 10, Rock Garden Lane Smith's are proud to announce the graduation of their son Aaron James Lutkin, former Saltus Grammar School Graduate. Aaron graduated in October of 2002 where he attained his Master of Science Degree in International Horticulture. He studied primarily at Writtle College in Essex, UK. and attended lectures for the first part of his degree in Post Harvest Physiology and Pathology, Supply Chain and Logistics Management, International Horticultural Crop Production and Tropical Crops, to name a few.
The next eight months, were spent in The Netherlands, at The HAS (Agriculture University) in s'Hertogenbosch, where he studied Export Management, International Trade, Business Case Studies and researched at the headquarters of the Dutch Plant Protection Services for five months, within the Department of Entomology. There he completed his dissertation on the potential social, economic and environmental repercussions of three invasive insect species, if there were introduced to the Island.
Upon completion of his MSc he applied for a position within the Department of Environmental Protection, Ministry of the Environment in Bermuda and was successful in obtaining the post of trainee Environmental Protection Officer.
Aaron feels lucky he is able to work within a field which he is trained in and enjoys and would like to thank the Garden Club, Botanical Society, St. Patrick's Church, the Bermuda Government and Saltus Grammer School for scholarship funding, enabling him to develop his hobby and interests into a full time career. He hopes now, he can contribute positively to Bermuda's Environment and assist in the future protection and sustainability of Bermuda's natural habitat.
