The scholarship in memory of the late Ewan Sampson was awarded this year to an avid computer programmer.

Saltus graduate Chris Pullen who has been pursuing an honours degree in Computer Science and Economics at the University of Toronto was the recipient of the award. "I excelled at IT and I really like solving problems so I filled out the application and had an interview," Mr. Pullen said.

The Ewan Sampson Scholarship Trust (ESST) awards a Bermudian student going into their second year of a four-year degree programme with interests in Information Technology (IT). The scholarship is awarded for the next three years of the university programme and is $12,500.

ESST was founded in 1998 by the parents of 17-year-old Saltus student Ewan Sampson who died in a tragic cycle accident. Ewan had decided to make IT his career choice and had applied to many colleges before he died.

"I knew who Ewan was and what had happened but the Outreach Committee came and spoke at school and that's what got me interested in applying for the scholarship," Mr. Pullen said. Mr. Pullen is currently working for Endurance Specialty Insurance Ltd. and will be back for college this autumnl.
