Rivals share the points
Last weekend marked the end of league play for another year in the Bermuda Hockey Federation with two matches at Saltus - both ending in draws.
Newcomers Ravens completed their first season on a high with a 0-0 draw in their final match with B League runners-up, Cardinals.
Ravens left the pitch ecstatic after holding Cards off in a tight see-saw battle.
The freshman squad have improved steadily throughout the season and on Sunday they began strongly, taking Cardinals by surprise and dominating with high-energy play for much of the first half.
Ravens created a number of good opportunities at goal, in particular a great effort by Liz Gardner, but the Cardinals' defence managed to shut them out.
Cards upped the pace of their game in the second half and were soon in control of play, putting their opposition's defence under relentless pressure.
Goalkeeper Ros Hanson pulled off a great save when Cards' Heidi Lynam took a shot on goal which was almost certainly headed for the back of the net and kept Ravens in the game to take the well-deserved draw.
Swifts and Bluebirds drew 2-2 to end their seasons.
A Viv Taylor goal early in the first half put the Blues off to a solid start.
They increased their lead to 2-0 when Ellen Charnley picked up a cross from Louisa Bussey and calmly slipped the ball past the keeper just before the break. Undeterred by the goal deficit, Swifts came out battling in the second half and the pressure paid off when they scored two late goals to level the match and ensure an equal share of the points.
The regular play may be over but next weekend rival squads will square off once again as all teams will be in action for the cup tournaments in both men's and women's leagues.
Knock-out matches and semi-finals will be played on Saturday beginning at 10.30 a.m. at the National Sport Centre's Northern Field.
The finals will be held on Sunday from noon.
