Bascome denies 'return' rumours

Recently retired Dandy Town coach Andrew Bascome has quashed rumours of a possible return to local soccer.

Amid speculation that the former North Village maestro was contemplating joining the ranks of PHC Zebras as technical director, Bascome made it clear that he was only approached to assist coach Mark Wade during pre-season preparations.

"I have been helping them out, but it's nothing official," admitted Bascome, who also took part in last week's nine-day UEFA International Coaching Certificate course held at Saltus Grammar School.

"He (Wade) just asked me to come and help out during a few training sessions . . . that's all - it was nothing serious," he said.

Bascome was also spotted peaking in at neighbouring Southampton Rangers recently.

"Rick (Richardson) did call me, but he never got back to me. I've received a couple of calls, but nothing hasn't been set in stone,"said Bascome.

Though many remain keen to see Bascome make a return to local soccer one day, the veteran insisted that he had had enough.

Last season Bascome coached Town to a Charity Cup Final triumph and a second place finish in the Premier Division, while his former team were also Friendship Trophy semi-finalists and a FA Cup Finalists.
