A Somerset woman and a Jamaican national were arraigned before Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves on Monday for possession of a controlled substance, cocaine, with intent to supply.

Mr. Greaves told Cindy Augustus, 26, to "make sure you get up early" after releasing her on $10,000 bail and ordering her to appear at the Somerset Police station by 9 a.m., three times per week.

Augustus has been charged jointly with Wilson Davis, 42, of Jamaica. The charges are to be heard in the Supreme Court.

The two Somerset residents were also charged with possession of the drug in an increased penalty zone, namely the Vernon Temple Childcare Centre, in Southampton.

Augustus was ordered to surrender all travel documents, keep a 9 p.m to 6 a.m. curfew and check in at the Somerset Police station by 9 a.m. three times a week.

While the Crown made no objection to bail, prosecutor Shakira Dill raised concern to Davis' bail application.

Ms Dill said that Davis was apprehended at the Bermuda International Airport last Friday while trying to leave the Island on a flight bound for New Jersey.

Since charges have been filed and the investigation is still active, bail application could be considered at a future time - "so that when we're ready for him we will be able to know where he is," said Ms Dill.

However, Davis' lawyer Larry Scott told the court that he had not been charged and was in possession of a return ticket when arrested at the airport.

"At the time of travel he had no reason not to travel. He could go to the moon if he wished," Mr. Scott said. "Take his travel documents if you want to make sure he doesn't swim away."

Davis was denied bail and remanded into custody until his appearance with Augustus for mention on June 18.
