Shot teenager recovers from injuries; man arrested after evening of gunfire

A teenager remains in hospital and a 20-year-old has been arrested following a series of reported gun incidents Monday evening.

A 19-year-old Sandys man was shot by two men on a motorcycle after getting off a bus on White Hill around 6.35 p.m.

Last night, the victim remained at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital in stable condition.

An hour-and-a-half later, two men on a black motorcycle opened fire on St. Monica's Road, Pembroke.

Police also received reports around 8 p.m. of a number of people fleeing the area around the Tennis Stadium, both on foot and on bikes, after gunshots were heard in that area.

Police say they have not ruled out the possibility that the incidents are connected.

Detective Chief Inspector Nicholas Pedro, the officer in charge of the Serious Crime Unit, said yesterday that a 20-year-old Paget man has been arrested in connection with the St. Monica's Road shooting.

He thanked the public for their cooperation and patience in dealing with road closures as Police searched for evidence, but said they are still seeking information on all three reported incidents.

"We are still interested in speaking with persons who were on the public bus that dropped off the victim of the first shooting at White Hill Field, or anyone that saw or knows anything that may assist the inquiry team," the detective said.

"Investigators would like to speak to any person who witnessed these incidents, or anyone who may have seen two men riding a black motorcycle in the Marsh Folly/Tennis Stadium area around this time."

Anyone with information is asked to call the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit at 299-4535, or anonymously give information to Crime Stoppers Bermuda at 800-8477.
