Ben E. King to sing in the park
treat August 25 at the latest edition of the Bank of Butterfield's "Concert in the Park'' series.
Mr. King, who has visited Bermuda on previous occasions, will team up with the US Air Band and local entertainers the Tom Ray Band.
Corporation of Hamilton secretary Roger Sherratt said the US Air Band was instrumental in arranging for Mr. King to visit.
They mentioned the idea to him at a National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People banquet earlier this year and he agreed to come to Bermuda.
"He was very keen to come to Bermuda,'' Mr. Sherratt said. "He volunteered to come and will appear alongside the US Air band. It promises to be the best concert we have ever had.
"We are absolutely delighted the USAir persuaded Ben E. King to come. He is a major international performer.'' Ben E. King most famous hit was "Stand By Me''. Mr. Sherratt said that the concert will be three hours long and start at 6 p.m. There will be extra seating provided.
He encouraged concert goers to bring a picnic supper although the Lions Club will also be running a canteen.
