All aboard for an `end-to-end' clean-up

Keep Bermuda Beautiful's National Clean-up Day is set for this Saturday -- and the organisers have set themselves a giant "spring cleaning'' task.

The event is scheduled to last from 9 a.m. to noon, and the goal for this year's clean-up is to cover the entire length of the Railway Trail.

KBB stressed the need to involve the entire community, particularly those who live within the vicinity of the trail.

Volunteers are relied on to raise public awareness, not only of the importance of protecting the Railway Trail, but of protecting the environment as a whole.

To make the job of data collection easier, volunteers will be asked to document the amount and the types of trash collected. This information puts KBB in a better position to implement their litter prevention campaign.

Also, although the Railway Trail is the focus of this year's event, volunteers are encouraged to advise KBB of any other sites of special interest that they wish to clean up.

The sites that volunteers name will be included in the clean-up, and means for the removal of trash collected at those sites will be provided.

The Bacardi Family Foundation has donated $8,000 in cash toward the planning of the day.

They have also provided 1,000 t-shirts, which will be given to volunteers taking part.
