Young R&B singer and actress Aaliyah - killed in a plane crash in the Bahamas on Saturday - was slated to star in an upcoming movie by Bermudian film maker Alison Swan before her untimely death.

The rising star of 'Romeo Must Die' had agreed to appear in 'Some Kind of Blue' which Ms Swan is writing and directing.

The film was picked up by entertainment company Fox 2000 in April of this year and Ms Swan's husband, Robert Teitel is producing the film.

Mr. Teitel also produced the popular film 'Soul Food'.

On Saturday evening the small twin engine plane on which Aaliyah was flying to Miami from Bahamas crashed, killing all eight passengers on board as well as the pilot.

Ms Swan's film was one of many of Aaliyah's projects which will be affected by the tragedy.

The 22-year-old singer/actress was also slated to play opposite Keanu Reeves in the two upcoming sequels to 'Matrix'.

According to E! Online, Aaliyah had done pre-production on the first of those two films, 'Matrix Reloaded', but principal photography was not expected to start until this fall in Australia.

However, Aaliyah had completed filming of 'Queen of the Damned' based on the Anne Rice novel prior to her death.

The young woman was to play a pivotal role in 'Some Kind of Blue' - a period drama set at the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival.

The film is about a man who falls in love with his jazz idol's daughter during the Newport festival and Aaliyah had committed to playing the daughter.

Last night Ms Swan could not be contacted on how the young woman's untimely death would affect her upcoming film.

Ms Swan's first film 'Mixing Nia' won prizes at the Bermuda International Film Festival, the Houston Film Festival and the Acapulco Black Film Festival.
