Island's Ironmen return

The first Half-Ironman Triathlon held in Bermuda for several years attracted just four teams and four individuals on Sunday with half of those completing the gruelling course.

After a 1.25 mile swim in Harrington Sound, 54.1 miles on the bike and a 12.5 mile run, Darren Maksymetz emerged the individual winner in a time of five hours, 35 minutes and 52 seconds with Carlos Pinardi (6:21:00) the only other individual finisher.

Team honours went to the trio of swimmer Andrew Stevenson, cyclist Richard Mason and runner Newton Adcock in four hours and 59 minutes.

Husband and wife team, Aaron and Karen Smith were the other team finishers, completing the course in 5:14.10.
