Medal quest

Bermuda’s quest for a medal continues after the Island’s athletes failed to produce a podium display on day two of the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games in the Isle of Man yesterday.Bermuda’s Bruce DeGrilla came closest to a podium finish in the men’s long jump final when he placed sixth with a leap of 6.73 meters.Also impressing were cyclists Dominique Mayho and Tre’ Shun Correia who were ninth overall in the men’s time trial team final.Sprinter Scott Clarke reached the semi final of the 100metres where he placed eighth in a time of 11.22 seconds while team mate Kyle Webb finished fifth in in the qualifying heats in a time of 11.54 seconds .Swimmer Nic Patterson placed 16 and 23 in the men’s 50m butterfly (27.41) and 200m freestyle (2:05.65) preliminaries while gymnast Sydney Mason was 12 in the women’s CIV final.In action today are Mayho and Correia in the men’s road race, Patterson is competing in the 100m butterfly and sprinters Clarke and Webb in the 200m.
