Motorist admits injuring rider and pillion passenger

A man has pleaded guilty to two counts of causing grievous bodily harm in an early morning crash that left two teenagers seriously injured.

Tymothy Scraders, 25, of Cedar Park Road, Devonshire, also admitted failing to stop at the scene of the collision.

The Supreme Court heard from Crown counsel Nicole Smith that the crash occurred on Middle Road, Paget just west of Bostock Hill, at about 3.30am on July 21 last year.

Scraders, driving east in his car, had crossed over into the oncoming lane to overtake two cars, when he encountered the motorcycle, driven west by 18-year-old Matthew Correia.

Mr Correia tried to avoid him by turning into a bus lay-by, but his motorcycle was struck on the right side by Scraders’ vehicle.

Both the bike rider and his pillion passenger, 18-year-old Christian Hillen, received extensive unspecified injuries, while Scraders left the scene.

A social inquiry report was ordered on Scraders, whose sentencing date will be set at the July arraignments session.
