Brown ?naive? to appear in TV ad

Shadow Transport Minister Jamahl Simmons accused his Government counterpart of being "naive" over a television advert for the Island's new ferries in which Dr. Brown's company name appears.

In the advertisement, which is a follow-up to promotions in the newspapers, the Transport Minister is seen in a doctor's surgery with an ultra-sound image showing the 'twins', the two new fast ferries that are set to arrive in Bermuda next year.

But it is the 'Bermuda HealthCare' moniker ? a company in which Dr. Brown is Medical Director ? on the Minister's white coat that is causing Mr. Simmons discomfort.

"In today's world, politicians have to be seen to be whiter than white," Mr. Simmons told

"It seems a little naive for Dr. Brown to appear in an advertisement which looks to be providing advertising for his company.

"I like to try and think the best of people, and perhaps that was the only white coat available, but it is unfortunate that it appears in this way.

"I hope it is not a nefarious act, but people have contacted me expressing concern about what has gone on. Politicians often get tarred with the same brush and it is a shame for something like this to be causing the public anxiety."

When contacted by Dr. Brown responded: "I'd rather not dignify that with a response."
