And to help give them a push, the department is offering a programme which will train them to work as waiters.

Labour Minister Quinton Edness said: "We are looking for young people to train as waiters. This is an opportunity for young people to get a start in hotels, restaurants and catering.'' Mr. Edness said starting young people off on a career in the catering and hospitality industry would help fill a shortage in the number of waiters the Island had to offer while giving many young people a second chance.

"If we can train 20 to 30 young people to go into a industry where they can earn a good living and start a career, then it will be a very useful for these young people. For some it will be a second chance.'' The course will cover basic waiter skills, attitude, appearance and presentation.
