New polling station for Warwick East
Election Day.
The polling station has changed from Warwick Academy -- now a private school -- to Thorburn Hall, off the Middle Road in Warwick.
The new polling station is behind Christ Church, on Middle Road, in Warwick.
Chairman of the PLP Warwick East campaign branch Dilton Lightbourne said they had not received a direct answer as to why the polling station was moved, but he said he did not want any voters -- PLP supporters or others -- to miss their chance to vote.
"We have been receiving a number of calls from people, asking where Thorburn Hall is,'' Mr. Lightbourne said. "We want all constituents to be aware of the change and the location.'' Mr. Lightbourne said the PLP will also be notifying constituents of the change in a letter which it plans to send out about the pending election. And he said he hoped the Parliamentary Registrar will do the same.
The letter will also remind those who will be away on November 9 about voting in advance on November 2 at St. Paul's AME Centennial Hall on Court Street.
According to a Government notice published on October 21, the location of other polling stations are as follows: St. George's North at East End Primary School on Grenadier Lane; St. George's South at St. David's Primary School on Cashew City Road; Hamilton East at The Trinity Church Hall on Trinity Church Road; Hamilton West at The Francis Patton School on North Shore Road; Smith's North at Whitney Institute Middle School on Middle Road, Smith's Parish; Smith's South at Harrington Sound Primary School on Harrington Sound Road; Devonshire North at Prospect Primary School on Friendship Lane; Devonshire South at CedarBridge Academy on CedarBridge Lane; Pembroke West at Admiralty House Ballroom at Spanish Point; Pembroke West Central at Northlands Primary School on Berkeley Road; Pembroke East at Victor Scott Primary School on Glebe Road; Pembroke East Central at Salvation Army Hamilton Citadel on North Street; Paget East at St. Paul's Christian Education Centre on Middle Road, Paget; Paget West at Paget Primary School on Ord Road; Warwick West at Spice Valley Middle School on Middle Road, Warwick; Southampton East at Heron Bay Primary School on Middle Road, Southampton; Southampton West at Southampton Glebe Primary School on Middle Road, Southampton; Sandys North at Somerset Primary School on Gilbert Lane; and Sandys South at St. James' Church Hall on Main Road, Sandys Parish.
The finale to the PLP's annual delegates' conference is a sell-out event, party chiefs revealed yesterday.
All 500-plus tickets for the Southampton Princess banquet tonight have gone.
A party spokesman said: "We will only be able to admit guests who have sold all their tickets.'' He added: "We are certain that all who attend will enjoy a memorable evening and we sincerely apologise to members of the public who wanted to accompany us, but were unable to.'' But the party's long-awaited election platform will not be revealed at the banquet.
Party bosses were yesterday staying tight-lipped over when the document would be released.
But it is increasingly likely the party will plump for a release next Thursday to maximise coverage, with Tuesday the second most likely day.
The PLP have come under attack in recent days from the United Bermuda Party for failing to produce its plans for the future if it wins the November 9 General Election.
