Charitable body to help Berkeley projects

A charitable organisation has been set up to help with projects in the pipeline at the new Berkeley Institute. Calvin White, chairman of the board of governors, and Austin Thomas, chairman of the Berkeley Education Society, are named in a legal notice on page 15 of today?s as applying to incorporate a local company with limited liability called The Berkeley Foundation. Mr. Thomas said that the educational society ? the parent body of the school ? ?have a couple of projects on hand for which we need such an organisation?.
He said that setting up a charitable body was a necessary legal move, but declined to give any further information. The new school site is due to open to students on September 11.
