to allow the first stage of the development of a grassy Paget hillside.

The Planning Department has granted developer Calvin Simons -- on behalf of Bostock Mews Development -- in principle permission to build five three-bedroom condominiums on the open land at Bostock Hill East.

Some 33 people are objecting to the development of the land -- zoned residential one and agricultural -- because it will destroy the visual amenity of the neighbourhood.

A letter from the objectors to Paget West MP Patricia Gordon-Pamplin said: "We should make it clear that we had no objection to a single residential family home being built on the site. It is the incredible mass and density of this proposed development which gives rise to our objections.'' Bostock Hill plan Objector Mark Eldridge said Monday is the deadline for arguments in the appeal of the decision -- which can be heard by the developer's choice of Environment Minister Arthur Hodgson or a neutral third party.

The developer has chosen the third party and an overseas consultant will be brought in to hear the appeal.

Because the appeal has been filed, no further work can be done at the site until a decision is made.

Meanwhile Bostock Hill East residents will also meet with Paget West MPs Tim Smith and Ms Gordon-Pamplin in a bid to have the decision overturned.

On Monday a meeting is set at the site at 6.15 p.m. between the objectors, the UBP MPs and Save Open Spaces' Stuart Smith.
