The Bermuda Police Service has refused to confirm or deny that a member of its own was arrested over the weekend for serious sexual assault charges.
The Royal Gazette understands that a member of the service was taken into custody over the weekend in connection with an investigation of an alleged sexual assault on an 11-year-old boy.
But last night, Police media relations spokesman Dwayne Caines said that the Police could not "deny nor confirm" that the man detained was an officer.
He said: "We can confirm that an 11-year-old male made claims that he was sexually assaulted over the Christmas holiday by a 35-year-old Smith's Parish man. He has been bailed and a full investigation is pending."
