Friday, December 21, was a momentous day for Progressive Labour Party MP Marc Bean and his wife Simone.Mrs-Smith Bean was called to the Bermuda Bar that day; the same day her new husband was elected as leader of the PLP.“It all happened in one day — it was really excellent. We just married in October,” explained Mrs Smith-Bean, 29, who works at Charter Chambers Bermuda.She completed her legal training in England, at the University of Buckingham and the BPP Law School in London. She was called to the Bar there in July 2008.Mrs Smith-Bean — who is a trained dancer, specialising in ballet, jazz and modern — was born in the US to Bahamian parents. She moved to the Bahamas in 2008 where she completed a pupillage at Lockhart and Co law firm in Nassau.She met her husband three summers ago while visiting a friend in Bermuda and moved here to be with him last year. She works in the area of corporate and civil law at Charter.“It’s been an exciting year and I am looking forward to hitting the ground running,” said Mrs Smith-Bean, who was admitted to the Bermuda Bar by Acting Chief Justice Norma Wade-Miller.Head of Charter Chambers Mark Pettingill, who presented Mrs Smith-Bean to the judge during the call to the Bar ceremony, told The Royal Gazette: “She is an excellent lawyer, I enjoy working with her very much and I think she will go on to have great success at the Bermuda Bar. She is extremely personable and has a great wit and sharp intellect."Friday also marked the occasion of One Bermuda Alliance MP Mr Pettingill being appointed as Attorney General.Charter’s managing director, Marc Daniels, said: “We are so proud to celebrate Simone Smith's admission to the Bermuda Bar.
