Six men have been remanded in custody over an alleged fight during Cup Match.

The incident took place at St. George's Cricket Club on Friday, where 5,000 people were in attendance.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo refused bail for the men despite arguments by defence lawyers Charles Richardson and Llewellyn Peniston that the matter had been given undue prominence because the incident had appeared in this newspaper.

The alleged fight broke out on the bar and upper veranda of the cricket club at around 8 p.m.

Crown counsel Larissa Burgess told the court: "It is the Crown's position this matter took place in the bar area and spilled out into the grounds of St. George's Cricket Club.

"This matter was noted on the front page (of The Royal Gazette)."

Mr. Richardson said: "This event is not serious because The Royal Gazette took notice."

Mr. Peniston then referred to the incident as appearing "on the front page of a rag".

Larry Scott added that as the matter was still under investigation by Police, "they are rushing to justice again" and that officers needed more information.

"I don't think they should allow themselves to be led along," he said. "The Crown can say 'until you've got your ducks in a row, don't embarrass me'."
