A 51-year-old woman yesterday broke down in Supreme Court and sobbed as she alleged that her former boyfriend raped her.

"He said he wanted to have sex with me for the last time.

"I told him that I did not want anything to do with him. I did not want him to touch me. I kept asking him why he was doing this to me.'' The woman was testifying during the opening day of the trial of a 37-year-old man charged with seriously sexually assaulting her, depriving her of her liberty and stalking her.

The woman told the court that she was in a relationship with her alleged attacker for two and a half years but it ended on June 6, 1998.

She claimed that the man followed her for a few days afterward and kept trying to talk to her but she ignored him. She obtained a letter from her lawyer forbidding him from coming near her but claimed he threw it away.

On June 13, she continued, the man followed her home from St. George's where she had been running some errands and they stopped and talked on the street and then in the park.

She then headed home and the man followed her, still talking, and as she walked past an abandoned house he dragged her across the street and down some steps leading to its door.

He forced her inside and locked the door behind them, the woman alleged, and the pair argued and talked for some time during which she claimed the man threatened her with a pair of rusty hedge clippers before forcing her to go upstairs.

In an upstairs bedroom the man then pulled her shorts and underpants off and threw them across the room. He then pushed her out into the hallway and tripped her onto her back and forced her to have sex with him.

The woman claimed he then threw her a towel and told her to wipe herself off and told her to go downstairs and wash up if she wanted to.

"I felt so bad, so humiliated. I just wanted to get out of that place. I couldn't believe what he had done.'' She alleged that he then asked her if she planned to tell the Police what had happened and when she replied that she did not know what she was going to do, he let her go after asking for some money.

"I was afraid that he would not let me go if I told him I was going to call the Police.'' The woman went home and called St. George's Police Station. Two officers came to her home and took her to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where she was examined by a doctor.

Under cross examination by the man's defence lawyer Richard Horseman, the woman admitted that she and the defendant had sex at the house during their relationship.

She revealed that the couple had broken up on previous occasions, then got back together and told the court that shortly after she ended their relationship on June 6 they had sex.

The woman claimed she screamed and struggled with her alleged attacker while he dragged her across the street, down the steps and into the abandoned house but could not escape from him.

She added that she tried to stop the man from pushing her upstairs and from pulling off her shorts and underpants but was unable to stop him.

Mr. Horseman asked her why her underpants -- which were admitted as an exhibit -- did not seem to be damaged if this was the case to which the woman replied that they were stretched.

He then asked if she had broken one of her long prosthetic nails in the battle to stop the man pulling her shorts and underpants off and she said no.

Hospital pathologist Keith Cunningham later testified that after he examined the woman on June 13 he came to the conclusion that she had not suffered any recent injuries although her vagina showed evidence of being recently entered and ejaculated into.
