Progressive Labour Party MP Nelson Bascome said in the House of Assembly that an inquiry was needed to investigate a story in yesterday's Royal Gazette regarding the awarding of contracts at the Sports Centre.

The article reported that Englishman Robert Duffy -- who was awarded a major contract as stadium landscaper -- had ties with National Sports Centre chairman Donald Lines.

Youth and Sport Minister Tim Smith told the House of Assembly that he had begun inquiries into the matter and would return to his colleagues with answers as soon as they were available.

And he welcomed the scrutiny into the Sports Centre and noted that it would probably increase as the project proceeded.
