Can our players bridge the gap?

Bermuda's top Bridge players are busy practising in preparation for their participation in the Zone Five Bermuda Bowl Trials to be held in Martinique this month.

Previously, Bermuda had been in Zone Two, but now for the first year, has been accepted into Zone Five, the Central American and Caribbean Bridge Federation.

If successful in Martinique on May 24, the team will progress to the Bermuda Bowl Tournament itself, due to be played in Monte Carlo in November.

The Bermuda Bowl is the most prestigious Bridge Tournament in the World Bridge Federation calendar, being considered the World Cup of Bridge. It was first played in Bermuda in 1950 and returned to Bermuda in 1975 and 2000 for the 25th and 50th anniversaries.

The team members are Roman Smolski and Vera Petty, Tony Saunders and Charles Hall, Alan Douglas and Ian Harvey, with Jack Rhind as non-playing Captain.
