Weakened Franklin stalls, remains threat to Island

A weakened Tropical Storm Franklin remains a threat to Bermuda but had stalled some 260 miles off Bermuda last night.

Franklin had not moved in 24 hours, Bermuda Weather Service meteorologist Ian Currie said last night and will not get as close to Bermuda as expected.

Franklin had maximum sustained winds of 35 knots last night but on Sunday the storm was clocked at 60 knots.

Mr. Currie saud Franklin still warrants close attention and is expected to pass within 179 miles to Bermuda at 12 p.m. on Wednesday.

Mr. Currie advised not to venture outside during the lightning storms Franklin might bring.

"You should definitely not stand under a tree," he said. "The best thing is to stay indoors."
