Have you ever wondered why people camp during Cup Match?

Cup Match campers told that the main reason they camp during the holiday is to spend time with their families.

Albert Smith of Warwick has camped at Ferry Reach during Cup Match for the past 17 years. However this year he set up camp for his children.

Mr. Smith said that it takes a lot of work to set up a camp site. He previously lived in Devil?s Hole so it was easier to transport his belongings to Ferry Reach.

He said that because his family has camped in the same area for so many years he was thinking of putting up a sign at the site saying ?The Smith?s?.

Mr. Smith said that his family does modernised camping.

They have a generator and watch television while they camp.

In order to get a bath, Mr. Smith said that they take their bucket over to the water catcher, fill it and pour the water into a shower bag.

He said that the best part about camping is ?being in the family and neighbourly atmosphere?.

Mr. Smith said that his neighbours on the camp site look out for everyone.

Down at Ferry Reach there is a man who campers refer to as the mayor of the camp. Mr. Smith said that Shawn Tucker wakes up everyone morning and calls out, ?Morning, neighbours?.

He said that he is a character.

However, according to Mr. Smith, there are some downfalls to camping.

?I set up for everyone?s enjoyment and pleasure (but) when it?s over they?re gone!?

A camper who wished to remain anonymous said she has been camping for 25 years.

She said that her family has camped between Coney Island and Ferry Reach.

When asked why she has camped for so many years she said: ?I just come for relaxation ? he quietness of the area?.

Another Cup Match camper said that he has camped in Ferry Reach with his family since he was a baby.

His family camps from Wednesday until Sunday. Their campsite is complete with all the amenities one would have from home. He said he likes to sit off and camp because it take him ?away from the modern world?.
