New officers named as Trade Union Congress holds AGM

The Bermuda Trade Union Congress held its annual general meeting on Tuesday and elected new officers.

Michael Charles of the Bermuda of Teachers was appointed general secretary and Lynn Hall from the Prison Officers Association was appointed treasurer.

C. Renee Heyliger Bermuda Union of Teachers was appointed assistant general secretary and treasurer. According to the Bermuda Trade Union Constitution, the presidents of the affiliates assume the presidency of the BTUC.

This is usually done in succession as the first president was Betty Christopher, who was at that time president of the BPSU.

She was succeeded by Maynard Dill from the Electrical Supply Trade Union and the current president is Anthony Wolffe from the Bermuda Union of Teachers.

The first vice president is Craig Clarke from the Prison Officers Association and that means the next president will come from that organisation.

Mr. Wolffe in his capacity as president of the BTUC, will be travelling to Geneva, Switzerland, as part of the Government team to attend the Conference of the International Labour Organisation later this month.

Meanwhile trustees appointed at this meeting included Earl Hart and Betty Christopher.
