The Wednesday Internet QuizNiteBermuda has been cancelled as of last Sunday due to lack of participating players.

Those who had signed up and paid for games were sent e-mails on Friday notifying them that the games would be suspended until further notice.

Richard Woolnough, a director of QuizNiteBermuda, explained that the turnout had not been as expected.

?Not enough people chose to play and we didn?t see the nice rising curve of players that we had hoped for,? he explained.

But he added: ?It has not been buried, just laid to rest for a while.?

He said even with media coverage and additional advertisement the quiz nights had failed to take off.

QuizNiteBermuda participants could go to the website between noon and midnight every Wednesday and play the game for $5.

The games are timed and points tallied with a grand prize-winner receiving $1000 while 11 more prizes ranging from $500 to $100 could also be won. Quizzes tested general and Bermuda knowledge including geography, music, movies and science.

While the game is suspended it will give the directors time to examine what problems occurred.

?We have to look at it to see what we did right and what we did wrong,? Mr. Woolnough said.

?People who did play loved the game and we have received positive feedback from them,? he added.

The game was limited to people with Internet access, he added.

Mr. Woolnough could not say when the games would continue.

He added: ?We?ve learned from this.?
