Public Safety Minister Randy Horton has urged Bermudians not to travel to Haiti.

?Whilst our thoughts and prayers are with the citizens of that country, we are obliged to advise Bermuda residents to refrain from travelling there until further notice,? he said.

?In addition, we suggest that any Bermudian resident who is currently in Haiti should leave at once.?

The Caribbean island is facing civil war as the country?s opposition insist that current President Jean-Bertrand Aristide step down.

Mr. Horton described Haiti as ?most unstable at the moment? and noted that the US State Department as well as the Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the UK had already issued travel advisories to their citizens that ?Haiti is unsafe at this time?.

?We trust that the country will be returned to a state of normalcy at the earliest possible time, thereby ensuring the safety of its own citizens and the safety of visitors,? he said.
