Three charged in $1.7m money laundering case

A man and two women were charged yesterday in connection with laundering more than $1.7 million.

Roger Vincent Cox, 36, from St. George's, Sumaya Lambe, 30, also from St. George's and Michelle Lindsay, 48, from Devonshire, appeared in Magistrates' Court.

Cox was charged with ten counts related to money laundering, including purchasing a car and a motorcycle with illegally obtained money.

Lambe faced three charges, two of money laundering and a third of knowingly abetting Cox. Lindsay faced one charge of money laundering, and one charge of knowingly abetting Cox.

According to the charges, around $1,717,544 was allegedly laundered since April 2004.

Because the charges are indictable, none of the three offered a plea and their case will be heard in Supreme Court.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo released all three on $50,000 bail with a surety of a like amount.

They are expected to return to Magistrates' Court for mention on February 2.
