Corporation of Hamilton Secretary Roger Sherratt said: `We gave strong support because it was very much in line with what we believe will be recommended in the City of Hamilton plan to attract more residential development in the city.
"It will enliven the city -- people who live there will go to the bars and eat in the restaurants.
"It's in an ideal location as it bridges the city centre with North Hamilton.
It's something we are hoping to see more of.'' ARREST MADE IN SERIOUS SEX ASSAULT CRM Arrest made in serious sex assault Police have arrested a 24-year-old Pembroke man in connection with a serious sexual assault on a 19-year-old Pembroke woman early on Saturday morning.
It's alleged she had gone with the suspect to get gas for a bike but instead he rode to a house and took the keys inside.
When she followed she was seriously sexually assaulted but eventually escaped after getting the bike keys back. She rode home and later alerted Police. The suspect was arrested at a North Street residence at 4.30 p.m.
MAN INJURED IN WORKMEN'S CLUB ATTACK CRM Man injured in Workmen's Club attack A man suffered head injuries when three men attacked him in the Hamilton Parish Workmen's Club at 9.30 p.m. on Saturday.
The man suffered a serious open wound over his left eye, a cut from his left ear to his left eye and abrasions to the chest. One of the assailants landed blows with a crash helmet. Police said the injuries were serious but not life threatening.
MUGGER RIFLTES REVELLER'S POCKETS CRM Mugger rifles reveller's pockets A reveller relaxing outside a Devonshire bar was unable to stop a thief rifling his pockets for cash and a mobile phone.
The victim was outside the Anchorage Bar on North Shore Road at 4 a.m. on Saturday morning when the mugger struck before riding off with a female pillion passenger.
Police are also investigating a burglary at the Model Barber Shop in Reid Street, Pembroke, at 8.30 a.m. on Saturday in which cash and a 19-inch RCA television was taken.
STORE STAFF THREATENED WITH MACHETE CRM Store staff threatened with machete A machete wielding assailant threatened staff at Dub City Records, Pembroke, in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The man had asked to be served but was told the store had closed. He then returned with a machete but again they refused to serve him and he was turned away and Police were called.
WOMAN BUSTED OUTSIDE NIGHT CLUB CRM Woman busted outside night club A 34-year-old Pembroke woman was arrested early yesterday morning after being found with drugs at the Swinging Doors club.
Police attended the club on Court Street after 2 a.m. in response to a separate incident involving the suspect.
She was arrested on an existing warrant and searched, revealing a homemade pipe and a white rocklike substance. The woman was taken to Hamilton Police Station and detained.
POLICE BUST-UP FIGHT AT BUS TERMINAL CRM Police bust-up fight at bus terminal Police made three arrests recently after they were called to the Hamilton Bus Terminal on a report of fighting.
The suspects were taken to Hamilton Police Station in connection with the altercation.
Another man was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for unspecified injuries shortly after an ambulance arrived at 4.45 p.m. Investigations are continuing.
