Man fined for drugs possession

Police followed Steven Botelho on his motorbike at 2.15 a.m. in Pembroke when they saw his helmet was not properly fastened.

As Botelho pulled into the Bermuda Glass Company in Ewing Street, officers spotted him throwing away an object, which was later found to contain six small packets of cannabis. He also had cannabis in his pocket.

When he was interviewed by Police, Botelho, 22, of Poinciana Estate, denied all knowledge of the 4.34 grams of cannabis.

But at Magistrates' Court on Friday he admitted possession of the drug. Senior Magistrate Will Francis heard Botelho was fined $100 for possession of cannabis last January.

Botelho's lawyer Mark Pettingill said: "He does admit on occasion, though not regularly, to smoking marijuana but unfortunately on a couple of occasions he has been arrested and charged.''
