Smith to lead business delegation to US, UK

next week selling Bermuda as the offshore jurisdiction of choice. The delegation is being organised by the Bermuda International Business Association (BIBA).

Ms Smith will host a dinner at the St. Regis Hotel in New York on January 25, and will then travel to London to host another one at Claridges Hotel. BIBA stated that the dinners will provide invited guests with the opportunity to meet representatives from Bermuda's new Government and industry representatives.

"The events will be attended by senior representatives from existing and prospective Bermuda clients from our core markets,'' BIBA chairman Glenn Titterton stated in a Press release. "The attendees are a small but very targeted group of decision makers and influencers who are very interested and excited at the prospect of meeting the Premier and members of her Cabinet, and hearing about their philosophy and plans with respect to international business.'' Premier to head delegation to US, UK Bloomberg Financial president Michael Bloomberg will be guest speaker at the event in New York. Jardine Holdings Ltd. director Sir Charles Powell will be guest speaker in London.

Ms Smith will be travelling with Finance Minister Eugene Cox, Minister of Development, Opportunity and Government Services Terry Lister, Minister of Tourism David Allen, and Bermuda Monetary Authority chairman Cheryl Ann Lister. Mr. Titterton, International Business Forum chair Jan Spiering, and Insurance Advisory Committee chair Bob Steinhoff will also be going.

"This will be one of our first steps in facilitating an introduction of Bermuda's new administration to the marketplace,'' Mr. Titterton said.
