A British town will this weekend celebrate its centuries old links with Bermuda.

Sir George Somers was the MP for West Dorset, as well as the Mayor of Lyme Regis in 1604, which will host a series of events over the weekend and Monday, attended by St. George's Mayor Mariea Caisey.

Tomorrow will see a parade at Whitchurch Connicorum, which is near Lyme Regis, and a church service followed by a party at Sir George's former home, Berne Farm.

Lyme Regis is twinned with St. George's and Phil Street, chairman of organisers the Lyme Regis/St George's Twinning Association, said: "We are looking forward to a weekend of fun and to welcoming the delegation from Bermuda.

"Their visit is earlier than normal, as they usually come over in July for the annual Somers Day parade. The celebrations are early this year to mark Sir George's journey from Lyme Regis, and they are going to be busy in Bermuda in July anyway with their own celebrations."
