Relations Officer with insurance firm, EXEL, effective from December 1 of this year. The position is a new one.

Mr. Arton, a Bermudian, will be joining the company from CIGNA Corporation, in Philadelphia, where he is currently Vice President, Financial Relations.

Prior to joining CIGNA in 1984, he served in several capacities with American International Group, Inc. in Bermuda and New York for 12 years.

In his new position with EXEL, Mr. Arton will be responsible for managing the company's relationships with the worldwide investment community and working with the financial analysts who following the firm.

EXEL's President and CEO, Mr. Michael Kevany, said: "This is another move to increase the visibility and understanding of EXEL in Bermuda and the world marketplace.

Mr. Arton and his wife, Nancy, will be moving back to Bermuda from Philadelphia in December.

Mr. Jeff Conyers has been promoted to President of First Bermuda Securities (FBS) investment firm. Before the move, Mr. Conyers was Vice President in charge of brokerage services.

Mr. Conyers takes over as President from lawyer Mrs. Lynda Milligan-Whyte, whose full-time activities are centred around the law firm Milligan-Whyte and Smith. Mrs. Milligan-Whyte will continue to serve as non-executive chairman of FBS.

FBS' managing director Mr. Joe Taussig said the move formalises the organisational structure that has evolved over the last year.

"We have 14 staff members which is an awkward number from an organisational chart point of view,'' said Mr. Taussig.

"Instead of having three organisational layers which would be top heavy and stifle communication, roughly half of the staff report to Mr. Conyers and the balance report to me.'' He added: "The division of labour is more or less split between activities with a heavy Bermudian focus being handled by Mr. Conyers and activities with an international companies focus being handled by myself, but we often interchange when flexibility is required.'' During the past months, Mr. Conyers has implemented the first daily trading of Bermudian stocks and has played a leading role in the battle over the control of Bermuda Cablevision.

Before joining FBS, he served in both the Trust and Investment departments of the Bank of Bermuda.

Mr. Steven Conway has joined Ted Gauntlett chartered surveyors as Senior Building Surveyor and Estates Manager.

Mr. Conway spent 12 years with Bermuda Housing Corporation, most recently as Development Manager, where he was primarily responsible for building design and contract administration functions.
