Where is the humanity now?
January 30, 2013Dear Sir,I cannot help feeling great sympathy and compassion for the Uighurs who were brought here in the dead of night under strict secrecy and deceit when the perpetrators of this act sit back with all the comforts of home, secure in their homeland, explaining that it was all done out of humanity. Humanity indeed! What a sham. Where is the humanity now whereby the Uighurs and their families are adrift with no country to call their own, denied access to an embassy and most likely as it is now, no justice, perhaps little money if any and no stability and doubtful employment. What a disgrace for Bermuda that we dance around justice and show and behave in a cavalier and fickle way that justice is just for some and not for all.Why can’t we tell the perpetrators of this disgraceful act that they have to take responsibility for what they have done and to find a solution to help these four men and their families to be able to have a fair chance of life, wherever that may be.They have been pawns in intrigue, greed, and deceit. Can any of us imagine how stressful this would be? I have no way of judging if they were terrorists or not, perhaps they were never terrorists, and one suspects that is the case, otherwise I doubt if they would ever have been released and sent to Bermuda. Can we not place this firmly on the shoulders of the perpetrators, they all have the means, and as I have said before, they all know who they are. Do the right thing. If they don’t, they should be punished for all the infractions the have incurred, not only placing at risk the integrity of Bermuda, but for the humanity of people’s lives. We should all matter in the light of that.DIANA WILLIAMS
