Renegades put up a determined effort, but still ended up on the losing end during an Amstel League Second Division match on Saturday as league leaders

The deluge started early for Renegades as they were forced to defend for the first 25 minutes, while Teachers set up camp in the opponents' half, finally breaking the deadlock following an up-and-under move by Kevin Harris that set up a score by winger Edward King.

Renegades, however, came storming back, notching a reply against the run of play when Pat Jones outstripped the covering defence from 40 yards out. Jones missed the extra point, and was off-line again moments later when Pat McHugh was disciplined for a dangerous tackle.

Jones redeemed himself in aiding his side to a surprise lead, side-stepping through a hole in the defence and popping the ball up to a supporting Steve Everett, who crashed over the try-line.

Storming back, Harris converted a penalty, which was quickly followed by two tries, including a second one for King, as Teachers put the Gades firmly in their place.

Meanwhile, in other action, Police waltzed to a 39-0 rout of Mariners that saw soccer star Paul Towlson, known more for his exploits as a member of First Division club Vasco da Gama, score a try and conversion.

Other try scorers on the day were, Mike Deevy, Vaughn Davis, Billy Tempest-Mitchell, Stuart Randells and Troy Glasgow, who used his tall frame and long strides to notch two.

HOCKEY HOC NSC Rebels continued to set the pace in the Bermuda Men's Hockey League, after completing a 4-0 thrashing of a depleted Police Polecats side on Sunday at National Sports Club.

Rebels attacked from the start and were rewarded by an early penalty converted by Scraders after a foul by Kerr.

The domination extended with further goals being scored by Mark Ray, Donny Moniz and Nigel Pichery (penalty) sealing the result.

Police, meanwhile, had few attacking chances against a well-marshalled Rebels defence, their best chance falling to Steve Nurse, who squandered it, missing an open net from a scant two yards out.
