Ze Selassie was today convicted and jailed for life for the brutal murder of schoolgirl Rhiana Moore.

The 14-year-old victim was seven months pregnant with his child when he stabbed her to death in May last year and dumped her body in the sea.

According to prosecutors, Selassie butchered his young lover to death because he feared her pregnancy would be discovered and he would be jailed for having unlawful carnal knowledge of her.

Selassie — who was convicted of rape in a separate case ten years ago — admitted his sexual relationship with Rhiana during his 13-day trial at Supreme Court. He denied murdering her.

However, the jury this afternoon convicted him of premeditated murder by a unanimous verdict after about three hours of deliberation.
