Miss Bermuda Katherine Arnfield is in the running for the Miss World People’s Choice Award, but she needs our help.Last night, Ms Arnfield was ranked 20th out of the 130 contestants in the competition, which is decided by votes from the public. The winner of the competition will automatically make it to the final stage of the Miss World Competition on September 28.In order to vote, members of the public can download an app at the Miss World website, www.missworld.com. Users can vote twice for free, but there is a fee for additional votes.So far, Katherine has not been able to reach the finals in the Sports Fitness, Talent, or Beach Fashion competitions, but she remains eligible for the Top Model Award, the World’s Fashion Designer Award, the Beauty with a Purpose Award and the People’s Choice Award.Katherine’s father, Alex Arnfield, said his daughter has been having a great time taking part in the event in Bali, but is being kept very busy by the schedule.“We are in touch by e-mail daily with Katherine and she is incredibly busy working from 7am to 11pm every day rehearsing and other various activities,” Mr Arnfield said. “The girls just do not appear to have the time to become bored.“She is just about the youngest, if not the youngest contestant and I suspect she has really matured over the last few weeks competing and living in close contact with the other girls who are mostly in their 20s and with a lot more experience.”This year’s pageant was initially scheduled to take place in both Bali and Jakarta, but protests in Jakarta forced organisers to keep the entire event in Bali.US and British embassies in Indonesia have issued warnings about potential threats, but Mr Arnfield said security in the area was strong and the people of Bali have been nothing but welcoming.“We have seen no warnings regarding the event,” he said. “We visited the hotel where the girls are to find extensive security and they are not allowed to wander freely, which is a shame, but they are kept so busy they do not have the energy to ‘wander.’“We have had no security issues in any part of Bali and feel safe everywhere. Most of the people in Bali are Hindu and very peaceful. We have heard nothing but positive remarks from the Balinese who are an incredibly friendly and hospitable people.
