BOOM! by the numbers
Club Med's implosion was the result of months of planning and concluded in 20 seconds before the former hotel disappeared forever.
• July 16 D.H. Griffin Wrecking Company visited the site to begin creating holes for the explosives, this included at least 200 ground detonations.
• There were 2,000 locations for charges. 730 pounds of dynamite was used as well as detonation cords for the wall sections which took one week to lay in Club Med
• Club Med included 14,000 cubic yards of concrete – that's about 28,000 tonnes of concrete. The entire structure took only about 20 seconds to fall.
• The debris will take between six to eight weeks to cart to the airport dump. Six yard trucks will make between 3,000 to 4,000 trips to dispose of it.
• Bazarian International plans to complete the new development by 2012. The new hotel will be run by the Park Hyatt hotel chain
• The $294 million project will feature 100 rooms and suites, swimming pools, tennis courts, five restaurants and bars and an 18-hole golf course designed by Nick Faldo, as well as 140 condos, some of which will be available for hotel guests and 40 fractional ownership units.
