Close shave for charity
Two women are shaving their heads this afternoon at the Robin Hood Pub to raise money for two children's cancer foundations.
Along with the women, there are eight men registered to go bald to raise funds for the St. Baldricks National Childhood Cancer Foundation and Childhood Cancer Care Endowment Fund within PALS.
But Stephen Fallon, senior vice president of IPCRe Limited said the figure does not include the walk-ons.
He said: “Last year a Robin Hood bartender decided to shave his head at the last minute and raised $5,000 on the spot.
“We have raised $220,000 for the Childhood Cancer Care Endowment within PALS over the past two years.”
The St. Baldricks National Childhood Cancer Foundation hosts an annual fund raising event where people shave their heads bald for donations in support of childhood cancer.
In the past three years they have raised over $500,000, and portions of the funds go to local charities like PALS.The shaving of heads will take place this today at 4 p.m. at the Robin Hood.
