Have an app-y Christmas

Get organised: The Christmas List is a useful too for keeping on track as the busy day draws near.

Christmas in the 21st century ... there’s nothing like it. A quick search online will lead you to almost anything you can imagine — websites designed to track Santa Claus on Christmas Eve as he flies around the globe; iPhone apps that help your little ones count the days until December 25.

Here are just a few of our favourite ones:

The Christmas List is a great app to help you get organised with your Christmas shopping and stay on budget. You can make gift lists and keep track of what you’ve bought, what gifts are still left to buy and how much you’ve spent. The app is available for around $0.99 on iTunes.

If you want to make this holiday season even more magical for your child, why not visit www.portablenorthpole.com. The website allows you to upload of photo and a few details about your child to get a very special personalised video message from Santa Claus.

Looking to spice up your holiday meal this Christmas? The BBC’s Good Food Festive Recipes app, available for $2.99, includes more than 100 holiday recipes with step-by-step instructions and photos for each dish. This is a great option if you’re looking to find vegetarian recipes or cater to a picky eater in your household. The app also has a built-in turkey timer and includes helpful tips to help you master basic kitchen techniques.

Anyone looking to follow Santa’s journey from the North Pole, can log on to www.noradsanta.org on Christmas Eve. Set up by the North American Aerospace Defense Command a few years ago, the site is a great way to help young ones get in the holiday spirit before they head off to bed.

The Snow Globe app lets you hear an interactive Christmas story as you choose your background and pick your characters to make the perfect holiday scene for your snow globe. Once finished, gently shake your device to see the snowfall — like the globes you had when you were a child. It’s available on iTunes for $0.99.

Can’t wait until the big day arrives? The Sleeps til Christmas app will help you or your little ones keep track of the number of days until the ‘big day’ and even comes with a few festive Christmas tunes. Best part is it’s free for iPhone and Android users.

Aren’t yet in that holiday mood? Download the Christmas Sounds app to help you get there. Not only does the free app allow you to play festive jingles, it also plays a host of classics that are bound to help boost your spirit.
