BEST presents petition to Premier tomorrow

A petition opposing the construction of a restaurant on Warwick Long Bay will be presented to Premier Ewart Brown on Friday.

Warwick area residents and representatives of the Bermuda Environmental and Sustainability Taskforce (BEST) are inviting "anyone who has an interest in the issue" to join them in handing the petition to Dr. Brown at 10.15 a.m. on the steps of Parliament.

According to a spokesperson, "thousands of residents and visitors" signed the document urging Government to preserve "parklands in general and Warwick Long Bay in particular, from commercial development".

"We expect the volume of support for our position to be a significant influence on Bermuda's leadership to honour the decision of the Development Applications Board, which rejected the initial application; and honour the recommendation of the independent inspector, who advised against upholding the applicant's appeal.

"The experts, the relevant agencies, and now the public have all spoken. This proposal for a beach bar at the pristine setting of Warwick Long Bay should now be abandoned."

The petition is closed however, anyone who wants to see the comments on it, should visit www.best.org.bm.
