Routine traffic stop turns ugly
A Police officer was headbutted, pushed and kicked in the stomach when a man guilty of nothing more than a traffic offence turned nasty.
The officer stopped to speak to a man whose car was parked illegally.
He told the 41-year-old that his vehicle, which was blocking parts of both Church Street and Court Street, was causing an obstruction.
When the plainsclothes officer produced ID, the man responded violently.
"The man began to violently resist, jumping head first into his car," said Police.
"While he was lying across the front streets, he kicked the officer in the stomach several times.
"Even when he was handcuffed, he continued to be aggressive and head-butted the officer."
The man was arrested and taken to Hamilton Police station and a court appearance is expected in the near future.
The officer received minor injuries and did not require medical attention.
