A heroin and cocaine addict was sentenced to 12 months in prison and two years probation this week in Supreme Court.

Jubert Thatwood Williams, 46, previously of Warwick, pleaded guilty to three counts of breaking and entering and stealing cash and wilful damage to a cigarette machine at the Somerset Bridge Recreation Club in June of last year.

Assistance Justice Archibald Warner sentenced Williams to a year in prison and said it would be up to the Prisons Commissioner whether he could enrol in drug treatment facility, Camp Spirit.

Crown counsel Oonagh Vaucrosson told the court that in November last year Williams had broken into three Paget homes and stole a watch, jewellery, cash and wallets.

She said he also took part in a reconstruction of the crime.

Mrs. Vaucrosson said Williams' fingerprints were also found on the cigarette machine at Somerset Bridge Recreation Club.

Lawyer Craig Attridge said although his client had previous convictions for cocaine and heroin, there was a gap 13 years between hios last conviction in 2001 and his previous one 1988.

Mr. Attridge added in the interim he was convicted of cultivating marijuana and violent offences, which made him ineligible for Drug Treatment Court.

Mr. Attridge said there was an opening at Camp Spirit on April 1, but Mr. Justice Warner said he could not make the order.

"The offences are too serious, he has to receive an immediate custodial sentence," said Mr. Justice Warner. "It will be up to the Commissioner of Prisons as to whether he allows him to go to Camp Spirit."
