New Accountant General appointed

Joyce Chesley Hayward has appointed to replace Kenneth Joaquin as Accountant General ? the fourth person to hold the post in six years.

Mrs. Hayward has been Assistant Accountant General since July, 2002 when Mr. Joaquin succeeded Anthony Richardson in the top post. Earlier this year, Mr. Joaquin was promoted to Permanent Secretary of Health and Social Services.

Mrs. Hayward joined the Accountant General?s Department in December, 2000 after moving to the Island with her Bermudian husband Gilbert Hayward.

Prior to coming to Bermuda, she had her own chartered accounting practice in Maryland. Previously she consulted for the Resolution Trust Corporation, and worked for Nations Bank and Coopers & Lybrand.

She is a graduate of Georgetown University and has a Master in Fine Arts degree from American University. In 2003 she earned a Master of Theology degree from Wesley Theological Seminary and she is currently as assistant pastor at Richard Allen AME Church.
