in the net category after the opening day yesterday in the fifth annual Bermuda Easter Lily Invitational Pro-Am at St. George's Golf Club.

Winchester I are just a stroke behind their number three team after their round of 42 as Symonds' familiarity with the St. George's course proved helpful.

Also on Symonds' team are frequent visitor Joan Hardnett, Dottie Fulton and Pam Johanson. Tied with Winchester I is Glenn Dale Country Club of Maryland while Jonathan's Landing Golf Club of Florida is a further stroke back.

Essex Country Club and St. George's Golf Club are both tied on 44 in the net division.

The defending net champions are playing under a new name this year. Pro Danielle Nadon and Kathy Keely are returning from last year's team, Chaudiere Golf and Country Club, and are joined by Monique Rouleau and Sandra Chisholm on the Royal Ottawa GC team which is midway in the net division standings with an opening round of 61.

Defending gross division champions, Baltusrol Golf Club, are back for the fourth year and up to their winning ways already, recording an opening day 54 which gives them a one-stroke lead in the gross. They are followed closely by Team Glasgow on 55 with a three stroke gap before five other teams are found tied on 58.

The main event of the week-long tournament is the 54-hole Pro-Am at St.

George's and Port Royal, with an informal nine-hole event scheduled for Ocean View on Thursday which will feature a pro's better ball event.

The Pro-Am continues today at Port Royal before ending at St. George's on Friday.

A total of 29 teams consisting of 101 players from overseas are competing with 11 local players. The event has grown immensely in size since its inception in 1990 when 10 teams participated.

Steven Perry, who previously had ousted defending champion Nick Mansell, continued his winning ways on Sunday to wrest the 1994 Belmont Club Championship.

Perry totally extinguished the challenge of Allan Martin Jr. by a whopping nine-and-seven margin in the final played over 36 holes.

Meanwhile, the first flight saw Sam Murray defeat Sam Bezant, Edwin Hayward outlast David Lindo in the second flight and William DeSilva down Geoff McGuinness in the third flight.

Consolation winners were Anthony DeSilva (championship flight), Ed Johnson (first flight), Nick Aggarwal (second flight) and Harris Flood (third flight).

CHESS CHS Islanders emerged as the champions of the Princess League following their recent 3-3 draw against second placed Kingfishers.

Islanders thus moved to 241 points, four above Kingfishers with Independents (201 ) and Bishops (171 ) trailing in third and fourth respectively.

Meanwhile, the Marks double elimination team event starts tonight with Islanders taking on Independents and Bishops playing Kingfishers.

SOCCER SOC All parents of the North Village Mini Minor, Minor and Bantam Division teams are asked to attend a meeting tomorrow evening at the club at 6.30.

SOFTBALL SOF The will be a meeting tonight for all members of the Young Men's Social, Club Jets at the club starting at 8 p.m.

TENNIS TEN Brian Way and David Hyland were the winners of the men's doubles round robin event for the James Loutit Cup on Sunday at Coral Beach. The pair of Hugh Barit and Tim Petty finished runners-up.
